free choice artist statement

My free choice project played with the idea of the four elements - so different but yet the same. Their differences are in colors and shapes while their unity is in the texture of my media (a combination of watercolors and colored pencils). I also used rhythm to keep the eye moving between elements. To really emphasize the idea of each element being different, yet part of the same Earth we call our home, I hid a face in the tree. The face is the physical representation of an individual that possesses traits of all four elements -- passion and rage (fire), common sense (earth), intuition/fluidity (water) and evasiveness (air).

Packer Fever artist statement

New semester, new blogger account, new class - and our first project was Packer Fever with the goal of exemplifying Packer pride. I chose to make a cartoon. The caption that goes with the cartoon states, "We got those Eagles, Seahawks and pesky Bears. Now, no 'Steel Curtain' is keeping us from hunting!" basking in the very essence of Packer pride. I used color pencils as my media and I thought I did a fair job with rendering and a better job with showing the light from the fire in my rendering. All the Packer symbols, different lines and the perspective provide rhythm and keep the eye moving throughout the piece. Overall, this was a fun project, I had fun with it and the outcome was a fun Packer Fever piece of art. :)
